Riach Partnership have been commissioned to provide detail design proposals for three detached villas on the site of the former Bishop of Motherwell’s house in Bothwell, South Lanarkshire.

Set within an acre of land, the proposals respond directly to the residential context of the surrounding Conservation Area in both mass and materiality. The houses are accessed from a shared courtyard and enjoy accommodation extending to open plan living/dining; kitchen; study and 5 bedrooms.

Based around a contemporary facsimile of the Victorian principle of rotating geometry, each of the three villas is unique, with the internal plan corresponding directly to aspects such as orientation, aspect and view. The palette of materials include slate, cast stone and render.

The proposals were submitted for Planning Consent in September 2008.
