Residential Development,
Auchingramont Road, Hamilton
One site visit was enough to convince us that the starting point for this project was the commissioning of a survey of the existing site topography. The land drops some 20 metres from front to back making exploration in section a key element of the design process.
Our response is an elongated L-shaped plan which presents itself to the street in the form of a two storey villa, similar in proportion and mass to the neighbouring properties along Auchingramont Road.
Two further blocks complete the interconnected plan, arranged around and accessed from a courtyard some 3 metres below street level on a natural plateau within the site. The most southerly of these blocks then drops a further storey, allowing 2 duplex units to enjoy the southerly aspect across the communal gardens.
We are currently in pre application discussions with South Lanarkshire Council through which a carefully considered palette of materials will be agreed, including reconstituted stone, render, timber and both roof and vertically hung slate.
